Borrow, renew and request

All currently enrolled students, faculty, administration, staff and alumni are entitled to use the John S. Bailey Library. The following regulations govern the borrowing privileges extended to them.


General borrowing regulations

  • Borrowing privileges are not transferable and must be exercised personally.
  • Borrowers are held accountable to the library for material checked out until such material is returned.
  • Lost or damaged items must be paid for by the borrower as follows:

    • Replacement of lost books:
      • If the lost book is in print, then the replacement cost amounts to the list price of the book plus a €5.00 processing fee.
      • If the lost book is out of print, then the replacement cost amounts to €40.00 plus a €5.00 processing fee for hardcover books, and to €25.00 plus a €5.00 processing fee for paperbacks.
    • Damaged books:
      • For damaged books the borrower has to pay the cost of repair. If the book is not repairable, then the borrower has to pay the price of lost books as above.
    • Replacement of lost or damaged audiovisual items:
      • For lost or damaged audiovisual items the replacement cost amounts to the list price of the item plus a €5.00 processing fee.
  • All material checked out is subject to immediate recall, if needed for course reserves.
  • Material may be renewed at the Circulation Desk, by phone or online.
  • All library materials must be returned when they are due.
  • Reference items and periodicals may not be borrowed.

 


Undergraduate students

Undergraduate students must present a valid DEREE ID card in order to check out library material and will be allowed to borrow library items only if they do not have outstanding library obligations.

  • 5 course reserves for 3 days, 1 day or in-library use depending on the item

Library records must be cleared at the end of each term; students are urged to return all library material before the next registration period. Students must clear their library obligations (return items and pay outstanding fines) by the first week of each semester or session. Otherwise, they will be unable to check out additional library material, pick up grades or transcripts, participate in the commencement ceremony, or be granted their degrees.


Graduate students

Graduate students must present a valid DEREE ID card in order to check out library material and will be allowed to borrow library items only if they do not have outstanding library obligations.

Library records must be cleared every semester; faculty members should return all library materials when they are due. Failure to adhere to this policy will prevent them from checking out additional material.

All faculty members departing from the college must have cleared their library record before their service to the college is terminated.


Administration and staff

If requested by library staff, administration and staff members must present a valid ID in order to check out library materials.

All administration and staff members departing from the college must have cleared their library record before their service to the college is terminated.


Alumni

Alumni of the college who wish to make use of the library must apply for library membership at the John S. Bailey Library Circulation Desk. To do so, they need to present a valid ID card and pay an annual library membership fee of €30.00.

Alumni should present the receipt for the library membership fee together with an ID card, in order to enter the library and check out books.
