DEREE Writing Center

Mission Statement

The DEREE Writing Center is an academic service integral to the educational experience of DEREE students. Through one-to-one tutoring sessions that encourage active learning, the DEREE Writing Center tutors seek to enhance the communication skills of students across the disciplines at the undergraduate and graduate levels. DEREE Writing Center tutors recognize that individual qualities and efforts vary; therefore, tutors adopt a learner-centered approach to facilitate individual development and to respond to the needs of each tutee. Acting as informed readers and advisors, tutors assist students in their effort to become more accomplished communicators without undue interference: students’ academic work reflects their own ideas, critical skills, and writing abilities.
