Getting started @ the Library

1. Research

What’s in the library?

  • Over 129,000 books
  • Over 19,000 newspapers, magazines and journals
  • 50 research databases
  • 3,200 DVDs, videos, and CDs
  • and more!

Start your research here:

  • To find books, course reserves and audiovisual material use the Library Catalog.
  • To find articles, news, images, statistics and more use LibGuides.
  • To find a specific newspaper, magazine or journal use Periodicals A-Z.

To help you out we offer tutorials on finding and citing sources.

2. Services

Always bring your DEREE ID card.

You will be asked to present a valid DEREE ID card when requesting circulation services.

Borrowing books

You must check out books at the Circulation Desk before you can take them out of the library. You will need your DEREE ID card and must not have overdue books or fines.

Please do not reshelve books. Leave them on a table or on the book carts provided.

Be advised that you may be fined for writing on books or otherwise damaging them.

Computer use and printing

The library currently provides 32 computer stations.

Library computers are intended to support coursework and research by providing access to the library's resources, Blackboard, myACG and Microsoft Office. A limited number also include PASW Statistics.

Academic use, including printing, is given priority over recreational uses.

As these are public computers, remember to log out from online services. Do not save private or confidential files on them.

Printing is free, but please do not use paper wastefully. If you have difficulties printing, ask a library staff member to assist you.

Go wireless

Wireless internet access is available in all areas of the library. No password is required. There are outlets on the floor to plug in your laptop.

Photocopying

Self-service photocopiers are available at the main level of the library. To make copies, you will need to purchase a photocopy card at the Circulation Desk.

3. Conduct

Eating is not allowed in the library.

For drinks, use covered drink containers, such as screw top water bottles and thermos bottles.

Smoking is prohibited in the library.

Please keep your mobile phone off or on silent while in the library. You can SMS anywhere in the library, but if you need to make a call please step outside.

Please try to keep your voice low in the library. If a person near you is making noise, you may ask him or her to keep their voice down.

The lower level of the library is designated as a quiet study area. Only whispering is tolerated. Please respect this restriction and use the main level if you wish to work in a group.
