The International Business & European Affairs (IBEA) Society

The International Business & European Affairs (IBEA) society is the newest curricular society at DEREE. Its core purpose is to support, promote, encourage and communicate the academic, social and professional pursuits of IBEA majoring students.

Objectives of the Society

For the successful accomplishment of its core mandate, IBEA Society has six main objectives:

  1. To provide IBEA major students the opportunities to enhance their knowledge and skills in the International Business and European affairs field; while providing members the opportunity to meet International Business professionals through lectures, meetings, and discussions
  2. To foster academic interest in the development of critical insights into the world of international and European business and into the strategies available to firms conducting business across national boundaries.
  3. To promote interaction among European institutions, professional organizations, students, faculty and staff.
  4. To provide in campus students with an information network geared towards helping them to be better adapted to the academic requirements of IBEA major.
  5. To provide a social network for IBEA students that can help them to get involved in the wider American College of Greece community.
  6. (a)To provide a central location for students of all nationalities and backgrounds to build friendships, exchange ideas, and promote personal development through international awareness and ethical behavior.

Society Events
The Society organizes and co-organizes a variety of events each year and provides its members the opportunity to meet IBEA professionals through field trips, lectures, meetings and discussions. The Society is characterized by a very active participation in the events of the Institution, such as the “Business Week” and “Activities’ Week”. All events organized by the Society should carry the approval of the Society’s Advisor(s), the Department Head and the Academic Dean. So far, the IBEA Society has won two annual DEREE awards in recent years.

Society Leadership
The Society is lead by the General Assembly (GA) of its members. The GB of the Society is responsible for organizing the activities of the Society and acts as a liaison between its members and the College. The GB of the Society shall be elected at the Annual General Assembly Meeting. Elections are held during the Spring Semester for the GB of the following year. The GB shall consist of the following members: the President; two Vice-Presidents; the Treasurer; the Secretary; the Public Relations Officer, the Information Technology Officer and the Coordinator. Meetings of the GB shall be held at least three times during the academic year. All members of the GB shall be entitled to attend and vote at such meetings. The GB shall hold office from the first day of September subsequent to their election until the last day of the Summer Session of the following year.
