“During the first part of the lecture I will discuss the diagnosis and clinical picture of PTSD. I will then briefly present
Emotional Processing Theory that explains why some traumatized individuals recover and others develop chronic
disorders and what processes during Prolonged Exposure (PE) Therapy, the treatment that received the most
empirical evidence for its efficacy, ameliorate PTSD symptoms. Next, I will provide an overview of the efficacy of
different cognitive behavioral programs that have been found helpful in ameliorating PTSD symptoms, with a special
emphasize on PE. Finally, I will discuss the dissemination of PE into clinical practices in the community in the US,
Israel, and other countries.”
