LIBRA GROUP LAUNCHES INTERNATIONAL INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
Global Conglomerate Partners with The American College of Greece to Provide Unique Opportunities for Students
NEW YORK – September 28,
2011 – The Libra Group, a privately owned global conglomerate has
announced the launch of its International Internship
Program for a select 20 students per annum to be run in cooperation
with The American College of Greece (ACG). The program will initially
select up to 10 ACG students who will participate in an ACG coordinated
study-abroad program in either the US or Europe,
followed by an internship with Libra Group and its subsidiaries around
the world. The program launches in January 2012, with more students to
follow in the second phase.
“The Libra Group is a young and dynamic organization which has experienced significant growth over the past decade,” said George Logothetis, Chairman and CEO of the Libra Group. “We are pleased to be able to launch a global internship program which will provide opportunities for students to learn about our businesses, strategy and management philosophy while they further develop the skills that will ensure their future success. We fully expect to expand the scope and scale of the program in the years to come.”
The
internships will post students with Libra Group subsidiaries which
primarily span shipping, aviation, hospitality, real estate and
renewable energy. Interns
will be based at one of the group’s 18 key international locations,
which include New York, Miami, London, Athens, Beijing and Buenos Aires.
The internships will include an allowance towards transportation and
living expenses for the students selected.
Commenting on the launch of the program, President David Horner of The American College of Greece stated: “We are very excited about the Libra Internship Program, as it provides our students a singular example of study and work integration while enriching the learning experience. It also serves as a distinctive expression of the College’s sustained commitment to experiential learning. Our students will gain invaluable work experience at one of the world’s most successful global conglomerates and the study-abroad opportunity will expose them to new models of learning to bolster their skill set and engender meaningful global perspective. We are grateful to the Libra Group for their generous support and believe the students participating in the program will return to Greece to share their experiences with their peers, in the classroom and in the workplace making them agents of change in a global economy. The knowledge they gain will serve them well throughout their lives.”
“Given the significant economic challenges that Greece is facing, I believe that those of us with Greek origins have a duty to assist in any way we can,” added Mr. Logothetis. “The aim of our internships is to provide a real-life program for students to get involved in a wide variety of businesses in global economic centers and use that experience to build their careers and benefit their communities.”
The
American College of Greece is a partner in the Libra Group’s global
internship program that will provide work experience for ACG students.
The College program
launches in Spring 2012, initially selecting 10 students for study
abroad and work placement. An additional 10 participants per annum will
be selected for summer internships through a partnership with The Greek
