ACG Announces New Writing Program Director

DEREE-American College of Greece is pleased to announce the appointment of Leigh Harris, Ph.D. as the College’s Writing Program Director. Dr. Harris earned her Ph.D. in English from Yale University. In 2000, she joined the faculty of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), and in 2008 she received UCLA’s coveted Distinguished Lecturer Award in 2008 for excellence in teaching. Previously, Dr. Harris was a member of the faculty at the University of California, Santa  Barbara.

LEIGH HARRIS

At UCLA, Dr. Harris taught undergraduate writing courses and graduate writing pedagogy seminars, and coordinated a writing-across-the-curriculum program. She worked with faculty from all divisions to integrate writing into their courses, including those in the professional schools, the social sciences and the humanities. She also created a website to help instructors throughout the university teach writing effectively (http://write.oid.ucla.edu/).  
Dr. Harris has wide experience teaching writing to linguistically and culturally diverse undergraduate and graduate students. Her areas of interest and expertise include: developing multilingual writers, graduate student writing, teacher training and faculty development, curriculum design and assessment, composition theory and pedagogy, writing-across-the-curriculum, international education, digital media and learning environments, as well as feminist theory and literature.  
She is currently writing about the role of empathy in teacher training.
