DEREE – The American College of Greece announces transfer & financial assistance plan for students from closed private colleges

In response to the many students who have inquired about transferring from closed Greek private colleges to DEREE – The American College of Greece (DEREE) for the fall 2010 semester, the College is pleased to announce a series of special provisions to assist students in completing their undergraduate degrees.

DEREE is U.S. accredited and currently is completing the process for European validation of degrees through the Open University (U.K.) DEREE does not offer transfer credit for courses from non-accredited institutions.  However, for this fall, students, who meet DEREE’s normal admission criteria and wish to transfer from private colleges in Greece closed this fall, will be allowed to take their first 30 semester hours of any repeat courses at no tuition charge (standard fees apply). Beyond 30 semester hours (approximately 10 courses), a 50% tuition discount will be given for any repeat courses. DEREE offers a comprehensive curriculum with more than 1,000 course sections annually as well as accelerated January and summer terms allowing students to make predictable and rapid progress toward their degrees.

“We are sensitive to the needs of students from the closed private colleges,” said John M. Baworowsky, vice president for enrollment and student services. “I am sure that there is a great deal of disappointment among students who have studied at these institutions. We have developed a plan to allow motivated students to earn a high quality DEREE education in the most affordable and timely manner possible.”

Students from these colleges should complete an admission application and forward both high school and college transcripts.  Applications are now being accepted for the fall 2010 semester. New student orientation will be held September 7 and 8, 2010.  Classes begin on September 9, 2010. In addition, an accelerated October Intensive session begins October 18, 2010.
