Services

John S. Bailey Library offers the following services:

Borrow, renew and request

All currently enrolled students, faculty, administration, staff and alumni are welcome to use the library. The following regulations govern the borrowing privileges extended to them.

Document delivery

John S. Bailey Library patrons may request periodical articles not available at DEREE to be sent from other libraries through inter-library loan (ILL).

Course reserves

Books, articles, notes and audiovisual material may be placed on reserve by DEREE faculty for their courses, as well as by academic departments and administrative offices. Items placed on reserve are located behind the Circulation Desk and have restricted circulation periods.

Faculty members who wish to place items on reserve should consult the course reserves policy.

Students can look up course reserves by course number or instructor name in the Library Catalog and request them at the Circulation Desk by their call number.

Photocopying

Three self-service photocopiers are available at the library.

Students will need to purchase a photocopy card at the Circulation Desk. Each card costs €5.00 and is valid for 100 copies. You will be asked to present a valid DEREE ID card.

Faculty and staff should request a photocopy card at the Circulation Desk.

Computer use, printing and Wi-Fi

We provide 32 computer stations with access to the Library Catalog, the Research Databases, the Internet and Microsoft Office. On selected computers patrons may also use PASW Statistics.

Computer use is on a first-come, first-served basis. However, the library’s computers are provided to support research. Priority is given to academic uses, such as researching, writing and printing course-related material. Recreational uses, such as non-academic browsing, e-mailing, playing online games and social networking are considered secondary activities. The library reserves the right to ask you to give up your computer, if needed for academic use by another patron.

Printing is presently free of charge. Nevertheless, in an effort to conserve printing resources and energy patrons are encouraged to download needed material in external storage devices or email it to themselves instead of printing it.

A wireless network is available throughout the library providing internet access to patrons with Wi-Fi enabled devices.

Off-campus access

Off-campus access is available for many of the library's resources. Some of these are freely available off-campus, while others require authentication.

  • The Library Catalog is accessible with no authentication requirements.

  • Most Research Databases are available off-campus and require authentication.
    • Current students, faculty and staff use their personal ID and PIN to access the Research Databases from off-campus. For more information on off-campus access click here.
    • Alumni and continuing education students do not have off-campus access due to publisher restrictions.
  • Periodicals A-Z is accessible with no authentication requirements. However, the links to the Research Databases do not work off-campus.

Request library instruction

The library provides general library instruction, as well as subject-specific workshops upon request. The content of the library sessions is determined by the requestors’ needs and ranges from simple library tours to hands-on workshops concentrating on the use of specific Research Databases.
